Student Member
Purpose The Student Member category is intended to introduce law students to elder law, foster early professional interest, and build relationships with Certified Elder Law Attorneys (CELAs) through education, mentorship, and engagement opportunities.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify as a Student Member, an individual must:
Dues
- Annual Fee: $75
- Membership must be renewed annually (in January) to remain active
Term & Status
- Student Membership is valid for one year and must be renewed annually while the individual remains a law student
- Student Members hold no voting rights and do not participate in governance decisions
Benefits
Student Members receive:
- Official recognition as a NELF Student Member
- Access to select NELF-hosted virtual Zoom sessions (estimated 3–4 annually), focused on:
- Basics of elder law
- Practice areas and professional affiliations
- Career pathways within elder law
- Informal mentorship through volunteer CELAs, limited to:
- A reasonable number of email inquiries
- General career guidance (not legal supervision)
- Eligibility, at the discretion of the NELF Board, to attend select NELF conferences or programs (virtual or in-person)
Transition
- Students who remain in good standing and graduate from law school may transition into the Affiliate Member category
